Give Ann Lyons a hand

Dear friends of Ann Lyons—

I know it’s been a really trying couple of weeks for everyone. It’s the kind of world heartbreak that makes me appreciate my friends even more than usual. And when friends are hurting, of course I want to do whatever I can to help. When Ann told me a circuit breaker mishap had fried the circuitry of her oven I knew it was very bad.

Worse, when I heard what it would cost to fix it.

Ann just doesn’t have any “extra” dollars.

For me, the chill of fall brings PTSD. For Ann, it brings the pleasure of looking forward to lots of baking. It’s a big aspect of her ability to keep on an even keel, a big part of her self-care and health care, and a big part of how she loves to share with people and strengthen the “weave” of community bonds.

So… What should be a minor manageable problem in the scheme of things seems pretty overwhelming right now. As I’m sure you all know, baking is a big part of Ann’s life. I’d be surprised if this reaches anyone who hasn’t experienced the delight of one of her creations - whether Mac & cheese or shepherds pie; heavenly chocolate cake, fruit pies, cookies, tarts, nut brittle, galettes…

So I thought - Ann has a ton of friends - if everybody chipped in we could get it done. Maybe someone wants to just contribute $5, or maybe a bunch of us could buy- in advance - a cake or a pie (think I’ll get one of each) for $20 or $25, or a dozen mailable cookies… she’ll have lots of time in the coming months to be baking if she can get her oven fired up soon.

I hope no one is put out by my presumptuous ask - there is no pressure at all - a couple of us had to twist Ann’s arm to let me even float the idea.

No matter what, this particular crisis will pass.

And I hope you are all well and finding peace and joy where it can be found.
