“You are not destined to remain where you are.” -John Cena

Hello everyone, for those that don’t know me, my name is Annie. I’m a trans Afro-Latino neurodivergent people native to New York City and been living here all of my life. For about four months now, I’ve been homeless because I recently started to take hormone therapy and medically transition. My mother found them and you can guess what happened from there.

For those four months, I’ve been undoubtedly grateful for friends and peers lifting me up whether it would be housing me temporarily, helping with funds for food/basic supplies or giving resources for stability. However, when it comes to the next step of finding a place to stay permanently, it has not been the best.

I work in the Parks Department and I’ve been lucky to become temporary full-time to hopefully help with my situation. Last week, I worked 50 hours with pay for Independence Day hoping it would be my saving grace, but my account unfortunately was overdrafted because payments for storage + phone + fees for overdraft had my account in the negative triple digits. I broke down bawling at my job thinking my time was wasted and being restless was all for nothing.

My goal is to have enough funds by at least August 1st to cover enough for housing. I have looked at possible places after much rejections, but some that are very doable. The caveats and prerequisites (broker’s fee, security deposit, first/last month’s rent) are the obstacles in my way, so even if I saved every penny on my job, it would not be enough to cover the whole initial cost. Anything helps.

I also do art as well, so I would also be selling pieces/merch on my social media accounts (IG: kiwiiityhoon, twit: kiiwityhpoon) near mid-July. Commissions are also open too if you wish to ask!

I cannout express enough thanks if you have made it this far. I appreciate anyone who gives out a helping hand—little or not, it’s all the same to me :) You all are the batteries that power my spirit and make me smile everyday, despite everything.

I opened with a Cena quote, so I’ll close with one too. Anyone who deals with struggle, bigotry and hopelessness. Three words: Never give up.
