Please help MRS. Barbara J. O'Connell a Proper Farewell

Donation protected

  • On August 21, Wednesday morning, our family lost a very kind, sweet person who was a mother and grandmother to everyone. Barbara Jay O'Connell was very kindhearted with to everyone and was very genuine to even people. Approximately one year ago, she was diagnosed with two different cancers that were in stage four at that time. She got diagnosed with colon cancer and kidney cancer. The cancer was so bad that they also had to remove one of her kidneys. Even when I drove her to her chemo appointments, she never once complained about all her medical problems. Even undergoing chemotherapy, she never once got sick from it. She was so strong she was still driving, cleaning, cooking and being the independent person that she was. She would always tell me the reason why she was so independent was because she lost her husband on November 11, 1988, so she said to me that she didn’t have time to grieve her husband through all her struggles back then being a widow. She had to be strong for her children. She told me which I admired that and her so much in her. In June, my son graduated from middle school. So my husband and I were throwing him a graduation party that night before she came to us and told us she couldn’t breathe and it was scaring her so my husband and I drove her to the hospital to find out. She had a clogged artery and she needed a valve replacement, and a few days later they did surgery. And of course, after that surgery, she was still complaining she couldn’t breathe so the doctors decided to put a temporary pacemaker in her then a few days after that, she still complained that she still can’t breathe then they put the permanent pacemaker. She still was complaining, though that she couldn’t breathe so the doctor told us that they needed to have her undergo dialysis because remember, she only had one kidney and that would be hard for her to fight off any infection that was in there. They explained to us she needed dialysis now 3 days a week. She still never complained about that or anything for that matter which proves my point how strong she is. All the days and nights my husband and I stayed with her at the hospital she still never once complained about her condition and she was so positive about it. So Wednesday morning, my husband and I got a phone call from the doctors at the hospital saying that she was going under cardiac arrest at that time. They worked on her for almost an hour. The doctor explained to me and they couldn’t resuscitate her so that the day we lost a great person we loved so much. She was a 77-year-old woman that loved life so much she loved everybody around her. We then found out that she doesn’t have a life insurance policy so which makes it hard for us to pay for the funeral. The funeral is $14,000. If you would like to go directly to Fluers Funeral home on Knights Road next to Our Lady of Calvary Church to help us, we would greatly appreciate that or even donating anything here would mean so much to us for the funeral. Or even going on Fluers Funeral home does have a website where you can help pay for her funeral there also for Mrs. Barbara J. O'Connell’s Funeral. We would greatly appreciate any donation right now at this time. Thank you and please pray for our family. We are having such a difficult financial hardship right now. We want to thank everyone for anything. Please share this story so we can giving this wonderful story lady a proper burial she deserves. Thanks again everyone.
