We have taken Deo to various consultations, and the estimate for his life-saving surgery may be up to $8,000. Currently, he is admitted to West End Emergency Center where he’ll receive fluids and care for the next 2-3 days to strengthen him. ❤️‍

On 8/24/24, Deo went to the vet, and we received heartbreaking news: his condition has worsened. His wound has gone deeper, now attaching to his jugular vein, and the infection is spreading rapidly. We are doing everything we can to help him, but he desperately needs surgery for his polyps, and we need your support to make it happen.

Deo’s foster is committed to cleaning his wound and ears 2-3 times a day to keep him comfortable in the meantime. But time is of the essence, and we can’t do this without you.

Deo Vet Update: He Needs Your Help!

After Deo's vet visit this week, he continues to be the bravest boy He received a convenia shot and next guard, but the wounds on his neck and butt need to be cleaned daily and bandaged. One of our dedicated fosters, will be caring for him.

Our vet let us know that Deo urgently needs surgery to remove severe polyps in his ears, and this procedure will need to happen at a specialty hospital. The cost could be in the thousands. We’re trying to figure out the best plan for him, but we need your support too!

Meet Deo: A Remarkably Clever and Resilient Cat

For five days, our team at Astoria Cat Rescue tried to trap Deo, a smart and elusive cat who seemed to understand exactly how our traps worked. Each night, we left the trap in an abandoned space next to a backyard, threading a string through the fence and asking neighbors to pull it if they spotted Deo.

Finally, after days of effort and coordination, we trapped Deo and took him to a foster home immediately. His neck was severely injured and bloody, and he walked with a noticeable wobble on the street. At the vet, Deo proved too difficult to handle, so he was given antibiotics and topicals for mites and fleas.

The Challenges Deo Faces

Further examination revealed more troubling news:

• Polyps in Both Ears: Deo has polyps that will need to be removed when he gets neutered. These live cultures have deep roots, making the procedure intricate.

• Large Neck Cut: Likely from an attack, this large cut needs careful monitoring and treatment.

• FIV Positive: Deo tested positive for FIV, which requires ongoing medical attention.

• Deafness: Deo is completely deaf, with ruptured eardrums.

Despite these challenges, Deo’s spirit remains unbroken. He has shown incredible resilience and strength, and with the right care and love, he has the potential to thrive.
