Give Drifter a Second Chance at Life

Donation protected
"Go check out that horse that is at registration right now, the big grey one"... The last thing I'd ever buy is the first one we rescued, and I say rescued because it was just me and the meat man bidding on this guy. Rescues were there, dealers, families, and no one, not one person was willing to take a chance on this guy because he was dead lame. We came with no trailer, but we knew he picked us, so we waited for the trailer and made it home safely.

We started Drifter on bute when he got home, as well as vitamin E and OCD. The vet came the following Monday to evaluate his hind end lameness and come up with a game plan to get this guy comfortable. He is unsure if this is a permanent or acute lameness coming from his hind end. I personally believe he was hit by a car, as he has broken ribs on his right side and severe hind end lameness that you can even see at the walk, which is worse on the right side than the left.

"You don’t throw a whole life away just because it’s been banged up a little." They threw him away after riding this horse through the streets of Philadelphia for God knows how long. He came home with us, and worst-case scenario, we have to put him to rest humanely, but best-case scenario, he heals and will have the very best life we can give him. Drifter's eyes hold so many memories; this guy has been through it, and he is still so kind. My gut is telling me to get him to New Bolton for x-rays and ultrasounds to get him the exact treatment he needs.

This is where Drifter needs everyone's help. He is the horse that the rescues should have picked up. And they refused to bid on the horse that could not walk sound. This horse deserves this chance to get better. He is more comfortable with the medication we are giving him, but I just know there is something further going on that we need to address. Please help us get this guy through, he surely deserves it ♥️

UPDATE : After sending in videos of Drifter's movement. The vets at Mid Atlantic agree he needs full body x rays and ultrasounds and well as nerve blocks. He will have to stay in the hospital for a couple days as well for other blood tests and any further work up needed to diagnose his issues internally. We are going to bring him to Mid Atlantic this coming week for all diagnosis to be completed.
