Give Ecuadorian families hope for a better future

My name is Adela Barra, and I am currently a sophomore student at The American School of Quito in Ecuador. I have decided to engage in a personal project to proactively look for alternatives to help underprivileged families in Ecuador.

Ecuador was hit by a massive earthquake in 2016 which had an enormous and devastating effect on this amazing, but poor country. Many families got hit by the natural disaster, lost many of their loved ones, and even became homeless. I lived through the tragedy and tried to help many families, in many different ways. In the summer of 2021, I had a life-changing experience that made me realize that we, even young people, can help much-needed families, women, and children. We live in privileged conditions, and we should work to share our resources, time, and effort with others who need our support. I realize that we need to be resourceful, have determination, and perseverance, and through the generosity of people (like you!), we can have a massive positive impact on the lives of families that live in extreme poverty.

In June 2021, I engaged myself with Fundación CAEMBA, a not-for-profit foundation created in 2016. This fantastic organization www.caemba.com not only works untiringly to provide these families with a safe home, but their work continues to offer these families tools to prosper in a sustainable manner. All of Fundación CAEMBA's work can be done with success thanks to private donations from people within Ecuador and also thanks to donations from abroad.

CAEMBA (and all donors, yes… indeed… you can help build the houses) builds houses out of Bamboo, a renewable and noble natural wood that is even considered natural steel. These houses offer many families a safe place where they can protect themselves from extreme weather conditions, mosquitoes, sicknesses and even provide them with a safe environment to raise their families. Fundación Raíz Ecuador-CAEMBA does a great job of analyzing and assessing the different families’ economic and social situation and their needs. These very needed families are offered the opportunity to not only get a new house but have a new skill set to provide for their family. The deed is usually provided to mother's in each home, and Fundación CAEMBA assures each mother's full and active engagement in learning new skill.

Just think about the enormous impact you can have over one extremely poor family situation and their future with just a small donation. Each house cost $4,300. All funds raised through this GoFundMe initiative will go directly to Fundación Raíz Ecuador-CAEMBA, and we will work together for our community and our world.

I want to raise funds for at least two houses and be ready to build them by June 2022. I want to thank you in advance for all of your contributions. I am sure you will help me achieve this goal and help these families and communities.

I would like to give a special mention to Jose Javier Bueno, a 10th grade student who has made a personal effort to make a special monetary contribution to my project and has confirmed his collaboration on the construction of one of the houses this coming summer.
