Give Jose Delgado a Chance to Rest

Donation protected
Jose Delgado is a 75-year-old farmworker. He has worked in the fields of South Miami-Dade County for decades, planting, cultivating and harvesting the crops that feed us and our families. He continues working in the blistering South Florida heat because he is not eligible for social security retirement benefits. Jose has paid his federal income taxes for years, but only recently won a temporary work permit under a federal program for victims of labor law violations.

Jose recently told his story to the New York Times - about having twice suffered heat stroke working in the fields, and his advocacy as a member of WeCount!, an immigrant worker organization, for a county law that would have required employers to give farm and construction workers water and rest and shade breaks during the hottest days. That effort was blocked when the Florida legislature passed a law banning local worker heat protections.

I'm a friend of Jose's and I'm creating this GoFundMe so Jose can at least have a break from work when it gets too tough physically on his body. It's something we can do to help him in the absence of the dignified retirement he deserves.
