Give Judy a Fighting Chance Against Cancer

When our sweet girl Judy lost a toenail a couple of days ago, we expected to get her bandaged up and sent home with some pain medication and maybe an antibiotic. We never anticipated that it would lead to a cancer diagnosis.

After losing our beloved chocolate Lab Bill last fall to lymphoma after a nearly 14-month fight, I never believed I would once again find myself sitting in a veterinary oncologist's office -- but here we are.

On July 25, 2024, our sweet girl Judy was diagnosed with Histiocytic sarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer, and received her first round of chemotherapy that will help give her a fighting chance. She will get treatments every 3 weeks by the extraordinary team at VCA Southpaws led by Dr. Daniela Korec and Dr. Jack O'Day.

I can't explain what our dogs mean to me and my husband, Dane. If you've followed me for any length of time, you might have a pretty good idea of how big of a role the dogs play in our life. That said, when you find out you can't have human children, their importance is magnified to a level I fail to be able to articulate. In so many ways, losing Bill was like losing our son. To get another cancer diagnosis just 9 months later for Judy feels nothing less than cruel and unfair.

So many people have reached out to me asking how they can help us and help Judy, so I'm setting up this GoFundMe account. Just like we did with Bill, half of everything raised will go directly to Judy's care, and the other half will be donated to a family who needs help paying the insurmountable bills that come with treating their best friend's cancer.
