GIVE KENNY PINNELL A REASON TO FIGHT!
Spende geschützt
Ken Pinnell was always there to help a friend build a fence, give a hand to move furniture, decorate his home with Christmas lights for his neighbors’ enjoyment, or listen when someone needed to talk over a coffee.
BUT NOW HE NEEDS YOUR HELP!
On a beautiful sunny day in late June, our brother Kenny took his new tri-motorcycle for a test drive up to the Malahat Highway in Victoria B.C. For reasons we will never know, he was thrown off the bike and over the roadside barricade, hitting a sign and instantly severing his right leg above the knee.
There were no witnesses, but by some miracle, paramedics came upon his severed leg and the damaged bike. One can only imagine their shock when they found Kenny and realized he was still alive. They raced Kenny to Victoria’s Royal Jubilee Hospital, where the fight to save his life began. His other injuries were severe – two spinal fractures, a fractured neck and right wrist, and a traumatic brain injury. After emergency surgery and a day-to-day struggle to stabilize him, he was transferred to Vancouver General Hospital for more surgery.
It has been a tough year for Kenny. In January, Jake, his little dog, had to be euthanized. On Mother’s Day, his wife Judy passed quietly away after a difficult struggle with cancer. Kenny cared for her at home as long as he could, despite being on crutches for a cracked knee cap. Lost and devastated, Ken’s friends worried over him and coaxed him to begin living again.
An experienced biker, he decided to purchase a new bike and travel to Ontario during the first week of August to see his daughter Stephanie, son-in-law Andy and his two granddaughters Robin (right) and Ellie (left). While there, he planned to see his brothers and sisters – all who live in Ontario. He never got the chance to leave.
Family means everything to Kenny. Separated from his daughter Stephanie for many years due to a complicated divorce, Kenny and Stephanie only found each other about five years ago. His two little granddaughters are the joy of his life.
I am his sister Kathy.
Kenny is facing a long and challenging road. The medical team is reluctant to predict the extent or speed of his recovery. I believe Kenny’s survival was a miracle, but he needs help to believe his life was saved for a particular reason
Funds raised will pay for items and extra care not covered by insurance. But first and foremost, Kenny needs to see his family. Please help buy plane tickets for these two little girls to see their grandpa.
While all contributions are appreciated, thoughts and prayers are equally important.
Kenny turns 69 on September 29th. Even a birthday card would show him that people care.
He is currently in Room 506A Fifth Floor South in Victoria General Hospital on 1 Hospital Way, Victoria, B.C. V8Z 6R5
