Give Lincoln the Gift of Accessibility

Donation protected
The original goal of securing enough donations for Lincoln to have an accessible shower has been met. Thank you to everyone who contributed! I will update you as they begin the process for the shower. I will leave this fundraiser open so that anybody who would like to contribute to Lincoln's needs can still do so. Lincoln's family shares "One of Lincoln’s biggest needs right now is a Hoyer lift track system for transferring him safely and comfortably, which unfortunately isn’t covered by insurance. These systems can range between $5,000–$15,000, depending on the scope and setup. This would be life-changing for us as it would greatly improve Lincoln’s care and our ability to help him move around." Any additional contributions will be used for this.

Lincoln is diagnosed with X-linked myotubular myopathy. This condition greatly reduces his muscle strength, requiring him to rely on a ventilator, wheelchair, and 24/7 nursing care.

Lincoln's greatest wish is to have an appropriately sized shower for his needs. His current shower is not big enough for him, his medical equipment, and the additional person needed to assist with his care.

As you can imagine, being confined to this enclosed area every day would be frustrating. The SBSK community has shown that when many people contribute a small amount, it can add up to a life-changing impact. Together we can make Lincoln's wish come true and provide him with an accessible and accommodating shower. All money donated will go directly to Lincoln and his family and be used for an accessible shower. Thank you for your generosity and kindness towards Lincoln and others who have been featured on SBSK.

I asked Lincoln and his family to compile a few thoughts about their need for a shower. This is what they shared.

"Challenges with the Current Small Shower and Tub:

1. Limited Space: The small shower space restricts movement, making it difficult to safely accommodate both Lincoln and a caregiver during bathing.

2. Outgrown Tub: As Lincoln has grown, the tub has become too small. Lifting him in and out of the low tub heightens the risk of slips or falls for both Lincoln and the caregiver.

3. Physical Strain: Caregivers face significant physical strain from repeated lifting, which can lead to long-term injuries or health issues.

4. Inaccessibility: The current setup does not meet Lincoln’s unique mobility needs. He requires a shower that accommodates his growth, mobility equipment, and evolving care requirements.

Why Lincoln Needs a New Shower:

1. Safety and Independence: A larger, accessible shower with grab bars, a walk-in design, and a shower chair will allow Lincoln to bathe safely and with dignity.

2. Caregiver Ease: A well-designed shower will reduce physical strain, enabling caregivers to assist Lincoln without compromising their own health.

3. Future Adaptability: A new shower will grow with Lincoln, ensuring it meets his needs both now and in the future.

4. Improved Quality of Life: Bathing should be a stress-free, comfortable experience. A proper setup will enhance Lincoln’s daily routine and overall well-being.

By supporting this fundraiser, you’re not just contributing to a new shower—you’re investing in Lincoln’s safety, comfort, and quality of life, as well as the sustainability of his caregiving environment. Your generosity makes a tangible difference, and we thank you for being part of this journey."
