In Loving Memory of Marckus "Turfeazy" Atkins

Donation protected
The world lost a young man with a beautiful soul. Marckus Atkins, passed away tragically at just 31 years old.

This family has endured suffering like no other, especially Marckus. Through it all, Marckus kept strong in faith, a great attitude, and was determined to fight till the end for his son Makari. Throughout all his hospitalizations he escaped death numerous times. He kept strong up until the morning of September 10th, 2024, as he became one of the beautiful souls in heaven.

In Marckus' short, but powerful presence, his body went through so much. He never complained, but instead always made sure everyone around him was okay and felt loved. His motto was "Love You Moe", a catch phrase he adopted while being in the hospital. He was reminded of how important it was to not only HAVE love for those closest to you, but to also SHOW love and TELL them. He was full of so much life, love, and the desire to lift people up like I’d never seen.

His diagnosis of T1D, Type 1 Diabetes, began when he was 28 yrs old and from that point on, he had a copious number of complications including:

  • GI Issues- nutrients not sticking to his body. Diagnosed with H. Pylori
  • Extreme weight loss which caused his skin to lose elasticity, which trapped the moisture, and lead to numerous skin infections.
  • Amputation of his leg due to severe skin infection.
  • Another severe skin infection on his hand from a "freak-incident" spider bite while at a rehab center.
  • Amputation of his thumb due to the infection.
  • Septic Shock- His body's response to the many infections
  • Tracheotomy
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Numerous surgeries, including stomach surgery.

Unfortunately, with the number of recurrences, Marckus' body slowly shut down.

The Atkins and Santos families wanted to acknowledge everyone, the amazing people, who for the past year have reached out, visited, called, texted, sent love, whatever it was to show their support.

Marckus leaves behind a 4-yr old son who will soon learn that his Dada went to heaven early, a heartbroken family, and friends. This loss is deeply felt by all who knew Marckus and the many lives he touched during his short 31 years. Marckus' legacy of love, wisdom, hope, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire us all.

Chris and Theresa were diligently by Marckus' side throughout this ordeal, while still maintaining full time jobs, and helping care for Marckus' son- their Grandson, Makari.

They visited Marckus every weekend while he was in the hospital, abiding by Marckus' pleas to bring Makari to each visit. His visits with his son were the most precious moments Marckus always looked forward to.

With Chris and Theresa losing countless hours at their jobs and this tragedy on their laps, the family could use our help. Unfortunately, they have exorbitant costs associated with Marckus' passing that no parent should have to stress about. An autopsy is one of them, and of course, the funeral.

In addition to that, after spending the last several years fighting this horrific battle, they could use some down time to process everything, take care of themselves, and spend some family time together with their Grandson.

Let’s stand together and show this family what their son, Marckus, meant to so many people and give them a financial cushion and peace of mind in this difficult time. Let’s help give Marckus the memorial he deserves. We are TEAMTURF and today we need to show The Atkins/Santos family how much they mean to us.

Please help the family honor Marckus' memory and say our last goodbyes. #ILOVEYOUMOE
