Hello,
My name is Alexandria, and I am reaching out to share the story of my foster-turned-adopted dog, Odin. Back in early October, I brought him home from the shelter to help him heal from kennel cough, which had unfortunately developed into pneumonia. My goal was to give him a safe and loving environment to recover in.
In November, after weeks of care and treatment, we were overjoyed when the vet gave us the green light—he was healed and good to go. However, just a few weeks later, I noticed troubling signs that the pneumonia might have returned. We took him to our vet, where he was not only diagnosed with recurring pneumonia but also a collapsed lung.
So far, his treatments the past month and a half have cost over $2,000, and the expenses continue to climb. I acted responsibly by getting him pet insurance in November, but because his condition is considered pre-existing, the insurance will not cover any of his treatments. This means I am left to bear the full financial burden.
Last year, we faced a similar challenge when we spent nearly $10,000 trying to save our late dog, Bo, who was diagnosed with lymphoma. We did everything we could—medications, chemo, supportive care—but we lost him just eight months later. We’re still recovering financially and emotionally from that devastating loss.
When we decided to foster Odin, I believed we were prepared. I had taken steps to ensure he would be covered with insurance, but this unexpected turn of events is overwhelming. Odin has another vet appointment and x-rays in four weeks. If his condition hasn’t improved, we will need to see a specialist to scope his lungs and possibly perform surgery to remove part of his lung. I am doing everything I can to avoid this outcome and to bring him back to full health.
I am pouring my heart and resources into helping Odin, but I cannot do it alone. The financial strain is becoming too much, and I’m deeply worried about the costs continuing to rise. I’m asking for your help to soften the financial burden and give Odin the best chance at recovery.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story. Any contribution, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. If you are unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others would be equally appreciated. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your kindness and support.
With gratitude, Alexandria and Odin
