Support our students

It takes a village! I am a mom, a community member and on the PTO at our school. I have been working closely with the school, the school board, and the school community on a building project. Several years ago the town of Colebrook, NH approved a plan to close the Colebrook Academy building, the building that housed the high school students. These students were moved to the elementary school. This means that our high schoolers are working with a middle school level gym, classrooms and labs and having classrooms in conference rooms, weight rooms and the gym.

The school board has planned an addition to the elementary school building to give the high school students the space and opportunity they need to learn, and to give the community a center for continuing education and other community activities.

Our little community struggles with poverty, with 18% of our population living below the poverty line, which is double the state number. In addition, the average income is just slightly higher than the poverty level. The way NH schools are funded is through taxpayer money and that leaves this school and community at a large disadvantage.

Studies show that investing in schools helps decrease the gap between the affluent and poor. In addition, investing in the school means your business may benefit from the following:

Graduates that are more prepared for the workforce
Graduates with an Associate’s Degree in automotive, education, and LNA studies
A community center that will provide space for additional adult education
A community center to allow opportunities for more gatherings and events

We believe that this addition will be integral to our community and to your businesses. We believe that an investment in our children is an investment in our community and the future of our community.

To make this happen, we have to raise about $6M in funds! There is a trust fund set up to accept donations of any amount to support this project and donations can be accepted anytime. I’d like to ask that you consider making a donation. Any donations made through this campaign will go to the trust fund.

You can also send your donation to the school’s private expendable trust for the building construction:

The Colebrook School District Facilities Private Expendable Trust Fund
Colebrook School District
21 Academy Street
Colebrook, NH 03576

All donations will be utilized for future school facility improvements. Per the trust document from the school board: “Purpose and use of the fund. The principal and income derived from the investment of the principal of the fund may be used by the Colebrook School Board as it determines to pay for all or a portion of the costs for the design, engineering, construction and equipping of renovations, additions or new school buildings and/or grounds to serve the students of the Colebrook School District.”

Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and for investing in our students and our community.
