ADOPTING PIGGY
Alright everyone, this is going to be a long read so please stay for the whole thing! I promise it's important.
Piggy
Piggy is an approx 4yo bully breed living on a rural property in Spain. When I first met piggy he was shivering, crying, and clearly in pain. Over the next 4 days I tried to get info from his owner's on what was going on and they said "he just feels sorry for himself". It became clear that he had an active bowel obstruction. He was not eating, vomiting bile, straining to poop every few minutes and whimpering while trying to poop. He was also shaking consistently. Then his butt began bleeding, he was not passing any poop other than bloody dribbles of diarrhea. I expressed my concern and they said they would take him to the vet. After about 6 days he began pooping again and started feeling better so I believe he passed whatever was stuck, however, his butthole was super damaged. It has a weeping, bloody wound that has been open for 3 weeks now.
He also clearly has an infection in his right eye, his penis is dripping pus, and he has some significant skin allergies that are red and itchy. I have offered to pay for his vet care multiple times but the owners do not accept my help. I believe it's a combination of pride and that they openly do not bnelieve in medical care, vaccinations, etc. So Piggy is not vaccinated, not neutered, and not receiving medical care.
He spend 12+ hours outside a day, which I believe he actually loves, and at night he sleeps on a semi-enclosed terrace but not indoors. Every time he comes over he immediately starts chugging water from my dog's bowl and then comes for cuddles and love. I can see that he desperately wants love and human attention but that's not the lifestyle this family follows.
So here is my concern, Piggy is loved by his owners but they don't love him in the way many people would expect. That doesn't inherently make it wrong, but it does make me sad for Piggy because he clearly wants to be a family member, not just an outdoor dog. If I could get this family to accept vet care I would feel confident leaving him here, but since they do not believe in vet care, I am concerned for his health and safety.
After weeks of asking if they would let me buy him, they finally gave me a price: $50k. I believe they gave this number mostly because they believe it's super unrealistic and won't happen. As I said, they do love him and see him as family, but their version of family looks very different to mine (and many people's) definition.
Fundraising
I am conflicted about giving this amount of money for one dog when that same amount could save hundreds of dogs in a different situation. But I also can't rightfully just do nothing. So here is my plan:
I am opening this fundraiser with the intention of raising enough to buy Piggy. My hope is that we will raise a smaller amount and the family will simply accept a smaller amount for Piggy. However, if they do not, and we raise under $50k and the family refuses to give me Piggy, then I would like to use the donated funds as follows:
1. Purchase 1 year of nexgard and heartworm treatment for piggy
2. Purchase food and supplies for piggy's family to use (like a bed for him)
3. Donate any remaining funds to Galgos del Sol
Who is Galgos del Sol and Why them?
This org does active rescue, adoptiong, and are committed to raising awareness through a variety of venues. "It’s not enough to rescue and rehome the galgos and podencos, we work continuously to get the word out. Our VIDEOS, BILLBOARD CAMPAIGN and SCHOOL EDUCATION PROGRAM are three of our approaches that reach different audiences in different ways.
Additionally, to help with our constant and burgeoning day to day expenses, we run two charity shops. One is the headquarters for the GDS Education and Rescue Centre. We feel strongly about inviting our local community to learn about the importance of our work and hopefully, they will be interested enough to get involved."

*PLEASE DO NOT DONATE IF YOU ARE NOT OK WITH YOUR MONEY BEING DONATED TO THE ABOVE 3 OPTIONS IF PIGGY'S FAMILY DO NOT GIVE HIM UP. I cannot return money once it is donated. I will have to personally pay taxes on whatever amount is donated and intend to cover this amount from my own money (I will not use donated money for tax costs), but this makes it hard for me to return funds. Further, if you would like to donate in a way that will not contribute to my tax expenses (which are about 30% of whatever money is raised) you can donate the following ways:
Venmo: hippodogcreations
Paypal: hippodogcreations@(G-M-A-I-L).com (i can't actually put the email address because of Go fund Me restrictions)
