Give Stoick and Addy More Good Days

Hi,
This is Stoick the Vast and his big sister Adalyn. Stoick spent the first five years of his life tied out in a yard by a family who did not want him. Until a private Cavalier rescuer heard about his plight and called me. I was six months from the loss of my first dog, my baby girl, Kikyo, and I wasn’t sure. Kikyo’s loss took a toll emotionally, and financially, as she passed after several hospitalizations and a battle with pancreatic failure. But Stoick had no one else, no place to call his, so we brought him home in June of 2021. I immediately knew his cough was concerning. Cavies have a predisposition to heart disease and tracheal collapse. Three days later we were at the vet, where we learned that his heart was exceedingly enlarged and he began three expensive medications. Then came the evening of last Saturday. Stoick didn’t sleep, we didn’t sleep. His cough was loud, honking, and unending, but his energy was good. We went to the ER Sunday morning, and he spent the night in an oxygen cage before undergoing extensive testing. He is now home, with new diagnosis of severe pulmonary hypertension. His initial hospitalization alone was $2200. He will require two additional medications and monthly cardiology appointments. During this time, we have been fighting for custody of our niece, who was abandoned by her parents at age three. We have been forced to pay expensive attorneys because the state did not at all work with the family at the time she was taken into custody, and one of those attorneys has disappeared with a $2500 retainer. These expenses were just so unexpected, as Stoick is still so young, and I was under the impression my retainer would be returned when my attorney stopped practicing before performing any actual work. We just need some help so I don’t have to take on an additional job, and can be home with my babies, and make whatever time they have together happy. Thank you for reading, anything helps!
