Give Sue a Wheelchair Accessible Bathroom
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Debbie and I have been friends with Sue since our early 20's, encouraging each other in marriage, family, homeschooling and just sharing life together! Many of you know that Sue received a diagnosis of Parkinson's back in 2019. Recently, because of how quickly Sue's symptoms were progressing, her neurologist discovered that Sue does not have Parkinson's, but a rare form of Atypical Parkinson’s called PSP (progressive supranuclear palsy).
PSP has similar symptoms to Parkinson’s but moves much faster. Within this past year, Sue has moved from primarily walking to almost entirely depending on a wheelchair to get around. Though Sue and her family live in a lovely home, it has narrow doorways and a small master bathroom, making it impossible for Sue to "drive" herself into the bathroom. Right now they are managing because Steve and Stephanie are supporting her walking in and out but, as you can imagine, they must plan bathroom breaks so that one of them is always available, and they must also rely on her being able to take steps into the bathroom, which will change over time.
Steve and Sue realize that, to stay in their home, which they dearly want to do, they will need a renovated bathroom and widened door. A contractor they've worked with in the past has offered a generous reduction of almost $10,000 from their initial estimate of $28,500 to completely rehab the bathroom according to Sue's needs. A bunch of us are hoping to raise the $20,000 needed to make this happen. Will you join us?
