GIVE TIME: A (True) Love Story
Do you believe in true love?
Love that transcends time and space.
Love that lives beyond death.
Love that feels like destiny.
We do.
That's why we need your help to make our short film...
"GIVE TIME": Returning home from a funeral, Alice, a lost soul, relives defining moments of her past love with Leo, a die-hard romantic. Time twists, turns, and intertwines as true love cannot be broken.
The Production:
Inspired by such films as "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" and the "Before Sunrise" trilogy, this production will play with the kind of love that cannot be contained by the boundaries of time. Using visceral imagery and magic of screencraft, we hope to depict a story that will transport you beyond your fears surrounding time and warm your hearts with the dreams of true love.
In fact, we are aiming to shoot in mid/late February: the MONTH of LOVE!
2020 has been a hard year on all of us, but this year, 2021, holds the promise of better days ahead. This movie is part of a movement to rekindle hope and humanity.
The Team:
Laurent Pitre & Val Mervis are the power couple behind the production of this film. In fact, it was Val Mervis who ignited the spark of creativity when she recommended they use an audio recording from a moment in time from their past as young lovers. Similarly, their first short film together, "THE SCENE", was conceived on their first date!
Laurent Pitre is an actor, filmmaker, writer, poet, teacher, coach, and hopeful romantic. Recent appearances onscreen include "BIG TIME" on Future Man's final season on Hulu and iTunes, and the GOODFOOD caveman who's stuck in the past, munching on sticks instead of ordering fresh food from the delivery service. Val Mervis is an actress, recently appearing as the recurring redheaded Fille du Roi, Angélique, in National Geographic series "Barkskins". In 2021, she has already manifested her dream role, a tough female mobster, in an upcoming feature film by Adam Alberts, and hopes "GIVE TIME" will inspire people to find love and hope in these challenging times.
Luis Oliva multiplies the means of expression. With twenty years of experience in the film and television industry as an actor and eight years as a director, he is constantly on the look for projects fuelled by heart and authenticity.
Andrés Rodrigo Castillo Davison, Guatemalan/Canadian cinematographer, moved to Canada to study film production at Vancouver Film School, where he specialized in cinematography and directing. Andrés has had the chance of working in various corners of the world. His experiences include commercial work, documentaries, fiction films, and educational videos.
"GIVE TIME" is Laurent Pitre's second short film, and his first collaboration with Luis Oliva and Andrés Castillo, who have recently collaborated on an upcoming ParaDime Productions short, written by Chris Cavener.
The production is made possible by viewers like you!
Filmmaking is a labor of love, but the artists involved in making works of art should be properly compensated. I have budgeted two days of shooting, labor for cast and crew will be approximately $8,000 ($4000/day). Being the kind, generous and professional humans they are, they want to help make this project as beautiful as possible, so they are working at a reduced daily rate. The remaining $3,111+ of funding goes towards pre and post-production, sound, editing, color correction, and entering festivals. This is where I am asking for help: if we are able to raise $15,555, we can ensure we are able to take our time to capture all the beauty of the film, at a professional standard.
We are launching this campaign to raise $15,555+ (feels like a lucky number...)
The proceeds will be used primarily to pay the artists involved, create the film's unique set, props, costumes and special effects for this time-bending movie, as well as to rent all the appropriate filming equipment. Furthermore, the funds will be allocated to PPE, hand sanitizer, production insurance, and all that jazz to keep the environment onset safe, healthy, and happy during these wild times!
Can’t donate? Be our friend!
While we are resorting to crowdfunding to increase the quality of the production for both the team and the audience, it is important to mention that regardless of the result of this campaign, we hope to not only get funds, but friends as well. We know that money is always a difficult subject, so we completely understand if you can’t back our project financially. However, it would mean the world to us if you gave us a shout-out on social media and shared the campaign with anyone you know who might be interested! Every action helps!
Thank you, for giving a moment of your time,
With love,
-The cast & crew of "GIVE TIME"
