Give to Amy's Brain & Spine Surgery

My name is Lisa Hogelin and I'm raising funds for my dearest best friend Amy Cuddeback.

Amy has been married for 20 years to her sweetheart, and they have two AMAZING kids! She received her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. She's always teaching and learning. She treasures her family. She's enjoyed running marathons, hikes, gardening, art, writing, yoga and the beach!

If you’re a friend of Amy’s, then you’ll know how funny she is but most importantly how much she cares about YOU! She's given a lot of compassion, service, and love to her community. Now it's HER turn to be on the receiving end. I mean it when I say she is my HERO!

Amy's life changed dramatically on October 18, 2020, when she tested positive for COVID-19. Now Amy is bed bound in her dark bedroom where she sleeps or lays still for 23.5 hours a day. She went from A+ health to 34 debilitating health conditions. She requires a caregiver and home health. There are times she feels trapped, like her freedom has been ripped away. SHE FIGHTS HARD EVERYDAY!

As you can imagine, she’s been to countless doctor appointments involving endless blood tests and imaging. As of now the Cuddeback family has spent over $150,000 in medical bills.

Amy is blessed to have a great team of professionals around the world doing all they can to improve her quality of life. They believe when she got Covid, her immune system developed what's called Mast cell activation, which caused inflammation throughout her body and hypermobile joints. This loosened her neck ligaments causing extreme amounts of PAIN and PRESSURE in her head and neck. This is why surgery is necessary, to have stability throughout her body.

Amy raises awareness about disability caused by chronic illnesses. When she first became ill she talked to Congressman Owens and vulnerably went on the news to spread awareness about Long Covid patients receiving help for mental health while living with these debilitating conditions. She even painted a picture to tell others stories and wrote the poems: The Invisible Beast and Slowly Dying.

Amy is in crucial need of a Craniocervical Fusion. Her body has suffered many complications from having Covid and this is her only option, her only hope, to get her quality of life back with her loved ones. This last year she has had a severe rapid decline in her health. The surgery will be performed by a very specialized neurosurgeon in Spain. Her family will need to gather enough funds for the fusion and travel accommodations of $150,000. Health insurance will NOT cover the cost of the surgery.

Amy dreams of being able to attend her kids' High School Graduations and birthdays. Also, be able to go on a date with her sweetheart!
