**UPDATE**
Thanks to the kindness of the
community, we were able to not only achieve our goal, but go above!! And with those funds we had a fence installed in the yard, Gigi is able to run free in her own space and enjoy the yard walking right out of the back door. Thank you so much for all of your love, support, and prayers.
Hello....my name is John Romano Jr and I am looking to the public for help during this difficult time. As some of you have seen, my family's dog GiGi was involved in a violent attack on December 5, 2023. Here is the original post:
"Today around 9am my 69 year old father-in-law was walking our family dog GiGi (a rescue) on leash at the Mill Pond Reservoir on the Burlington/Woburn line. He ran into a man riding a bike with 2 midsized unleashed dogs in front of him (possible beagle mix), and the dogs began to sniff eachother. The smaller dog nipped at our dog, so GiGi nipped back.
The owner jumped off their bike began to punch our dog GiGi in the head repeatedly. He broke her jaw, nose, and knocked some of her upper teeth out and the rest of her teeth were forced up inside of her jaw. GiGi was taken for emergency facial reconstructive surgery, and my father-in-law is shook up but ok. We reached out and filed a police report with the Burlington Police Dept, and Animal Control is aware - but no leads so far.
Our last hope is social media to see if someone has any information they can share with the Burlington Police Dept. We are so grateful for Burlington Animal Clinic having given our sweet GiGi surgery and taken great care of her."
The man found it in his heart to turn himself in, and my family could not be any more grateful for that. But with the cost of Vet bills and the fact that she may have more surgeries down the road because of this senseless attack we have begun to think about what the future will hold for us. That along with the fact that our sweet GiGi no longer wants to leave our house and head to the Mill Pond Reservoir for her beloved walks with my Dad - we are hoping to secure funding to build a fence around our property.
That way GiGI can feel safe, my parents don't have to worry about getting her out for walks, and she can live the rest of her years without the fear of another human hurting her. This has affected my family in so many ways - and took the little trust GiGi did have in humans away from her. This has been a devastating event that has changed our lives - but we will fight for justice for GiGI.
This GoFundMe was created after so many kind hearted people reached out asking how they could help her, and this is how I believe we can. If you can find it in your heart and are able to donate - help us build a fence for GiGI to give her a sense of safety and freedom. If it wasn't for the kindness of family, friends, and complete strangers on social media we wouldn't have been able to locate this man.
