Remi Darlaston and Tom Port are a young couple just starting their lives together. They were overjoyed to welcome a son (Oslo) in April but their happiness was short lived when Oslo became ill and, at 2 weeks old, needed surgery when he developed Peloric Stenosis. He was in hospital for 2 weeks.
Their lives were just getting back on track when Tom, a self-employed builder, decided to do some work for his in-laws while they were away on holiday. While rotovating the back garden the blades hit a brick causing the machine to penetrate his leg from the ankle to the groin. The quick thinking of his friend saved his life when he cut the power.
Emergency services didn’t know how to remove the rotovator from his body and feared he would lose his leg until a skilled paramedic in the Air Ambulance Service knocked Tom out with Ketamine and performed surgery in the back garden.
Throughout his ordeal Tom’s main concern was for Remi and Oslo who were in the house when the accident happened.
Now recovering in the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital he is fearful for his future. Unfortunately, he had no medical insurance so now has the prospect of a year with no income. He has been told he will need reconstructive surgery, physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Without money for even the bare necessities this little family is struggling with everyday bills and his medical needs. Remi is spending as much time at the hospital with Tom as she can whilst still taking care of baby Oslo.
We have decided to set up this fund to offer friends and family the opportunity to help if they wish to. Any contributions will be so gratefully received.
