Gary's Second Chance

Donation protected
On January 10th, Gary Reams was randomly assaulted and left for dead in a parking lot with a brain bleed.  He was admitted to St. Al’s with a severe head trauma, no memory of the accident, or his current life.  He didn’t recognize his daughter Jocelyn or his granddaughters.  Jocelyn, as his only child, has taken on the role of his sole caretaker.  He requires 24 hour care and because of the severity and difficulty of his needs, there is NO long term care facility that will take him in.  The hospital restrained him to a bed for 7 weeks after the injury, which is traumatic on it's own and now keep him heavily medicated, yet it is only leading to compounding his confusion.  With his TBI, his only active memories are that from long ago in his past.  Gary doesn't understand what is going on and the hospital is all business, as he is on self pay, because Medicare denied long term hospital coverage.

Jocelyn has been working on converting a portion of her home to a private and secure suite to take care of Gary.  She has spent everything they both have on the construction and is struggling to complete the project and still have funds to help take care of Gary and his needs.  Jocelyn is determined to give him his best shot at recovery in a home where he is comfortable, and finally able to get his life back.

He has already lost his home, as Jocelyn tried her best to keep the balance with all his needs.  He owes hundreds of thousands of dollars to the hospital, which will take his lifetime to pay.  This fundraiser is being orchestrated by Gary’s granddaughter, Lauren Manwill, for her mother.  Jocelyn remodeled her home to be able to move her dad in and care for him but she's facing a tremendous challenge.  They need help with meals, groceries, medical bills, handyman services, care giving, and a reliable car.  Jocelyn has always been generous and open with her home and her heart, to anyone needing a helping hand, and now she needs help from all of us.

“He doesn't deserve this and deserves a chance to actually recover and regain what he has lost.  It will be a long road and I am honestly, quite scared to take this role on by myself.  I have been doing everything I can, but I am afraid it hasn't been enough and I am dying on the inside, each day he sits stuck, drugged, and alone.

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, energy, or donations.  I really want to take care of him and give him some semblance of the life he deserves.  He may never fully or even partially recover but this is what I can do.  Thank you for your support.”
