Giving Back To Erica Candy-Breast Cancer Fund

We’re reaching out to our Fort Smith community in hopes an army of you will help support one of our young mamas! Erica "Candy" Phrasounonh Volavong is 32 years old with stage 4- triple negative breast cancer. She is a mom to an 8 month old son and 12 year old daughter. She has given so much of herself selflessly to friends, family, and patients as a nurse angel (CNA) in the ICU at Mercy Hospital and to Dr. Goodman & Dr. Strickland's office. For all Erica has given, it is our turn to give back to her!

Erica was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2017 and went into remission in June 2018. This past June, a week after having her son, scans revealed the cancer had returned and metastasized to her lymph nodes, bone, chest wall, and lungs. Erica has triple negative breast cancer, which is the most aggressive form of breast cancer. She has been commuting to MD Anderson in Houston since June and started weekly chemotherapy treatments in August. Her scans in November revealed the cancer was not responding to treatment. In December she was placed on an alternative chemotherapy. She traveled to MDA recently in March and scans again have revealed her cancer is continuing to resist treatment. She will return to MDA Sunday March 12 and stay for a month once treatment begins if she is approved to join a clinical trial to slow the cancer's progression.
