Giving Back to John John Sward

I have been John John Sward’s neighbor and friend for over 42 years. John John has been at the heart of so much of what makes our Muir Beach Community special. John John and others started the Volunteer Fire Department and the iconic MBVFD BBQ fundraiser/ picnic. John John literally helped build the infrastructure of our community – his creative heart, hands and vision laying brick upon brick, stone upon stone throughout our community homes and gardens. John John has been our fire chief, resident mason, and father to his children and ours. He has been the neighbor and friend that anyone could call on for assistance of almost any kind. John John has given to his community tirelessly with generosity and joy. And now it’s time that we give back to John John.

John John and his kids need our help. John John has advanced stage dementia. He lost his wife, our beloved Kathy, some months ago, and both Erica and Jes are determined to keep John John home, here in his community, for as long as possible. As some of you may know, this can be an almost impossible task where dementia/Alzheimers is concerned and requires around-the-clock care that both Jes and Erica are now providing. They need our help. Please, give if you are able so that they can get the temporary relief they all need until they can put more permanent care in place. They need the time and space to sort through healthcare and governmental hurdles to do this.

The cost of in-home care is approximately $9,000 a month for eight hour a day care. The goal is to buy John John’s family at least two to three months of in-home care. Please consider giving whatever amount you can to support John John and his family as he generously has for so many of us. Thank you.
