Giving Back To “Mr Christmas”

Anyone who lives in Albuquerque is well aware of who “Mr Christmas” is. Dave Plourde is an 83 year old Military Veteran who has blessed his Ventana Ranch community and surrounding areas with extravagant Christmas displays for over 17 years. Dave has won several children's choice awards and has been recognized on the news most years for his efforts. When asked why he does it he says “it’s for you, it’s for the kids”. Two years ago Dave informed me (his neighbor) that he wasn’t going to be able to do it anymore as his health prevented him from climbing ladders and being on the roof. We told him that was not an option and that all the families of this neighborhood moved here because of him and his holiday spirit. He declined the help at first but we didn’t let that slide. With the help of several amazing neighbors we just TODAY completed our second year of taking over the decorating task for him.

Here’s where the community comes in to help. While on the roof we noticed that the 17+ years of decorating on top of the house has completely destroyed his roof. It is in HUGE need of repairs. With loads of broken tiles everywhere. To add to it the cost of decorations and upkeep is expensive. Dave being retired is on a very fixed income, his truck is in need of lots of repairs and is constantly in and out of the shop as it’s getting old. As if that’s not bad enough, he of course has medical bills for he and Sandra and other needs, all while paying the insane electric bill to make his community smile with his light display every year. Dave is 83, mobility is limited these days, his wife Sandra is on oxygen, AND they help take care of their two grand daughters who live with them!!

We would like to SECRETLY put together this GoFundMe to surprise Mr Christmas this year with enough to tend to his massive roof repairs, large vehicle repairs or replacement and offset his electric bills and any other needs he has. LETS GIVE BACK TO THE LEGEND THAT HAS GIVEN TO US FOR 17+ YEARS!!! Can we pull together to surprise him as a community? We will record and post the gifting of all donations on social media.
