Giving from the Heart - All Hands on Deck

Hi. It’s been a while since I have checked in, but I had a pressing issue that has troubled me the last few days and I hoped that I might appeal to what Abraham Lincoln called the “Better Angels of Our Nature.” My heart was heavy to hear about the plight about one of my students. In the interests of privacy and anonymity, suffice it to say that no family should have to deal with all that has befallen them. Pretty much every pillar of support has been removed, through every means imaginable. And yet, in this student I see a spirit of dignity and perseverance which is so admirable. So, as I sit here grumbling about the property tax bill that just arrived and other middling inconveniences that really don’t amount to all that much, I am humbled by how blessed I am and tremble when I wonder but for the Grace of God…In short, my school community is trying to pull together and purchase some gift cards like Safeway and Walmart to help them and provide a glimmer of better times to come. I know it’s short notice, but if you feel so moved, I am trying to gather whatever monies I can by this Wednesday, February 2. In this season of love, I am hoping we can shower this family with love, kindness, generosity and hope. Cheers, and I wish you a belated Happy New Year as well as a Happy Valentine’s Day to boot.
