Giving in Memory of Keith Burgess
Donation protected
We're the family of Keith and we are intending to set up a charity in his name. Keith died at the end of January 2021 after a short illness with a Brain Tumour. He will be remembered for his sense of justice, his Christian faith and his sense of humour!
Keith was a great supporter of children and young people and he was always keen to help them stay 'on the right side of the tracks'. He wanted young people to achieve their potential, rather than living a life of crime. Keith volunteered for many years within youth groups and was always on hand either to lead or help. He would go out of his way to help young people who were struggling for whatever reason. He would encourage them to be resilient and to make their way through whatever the problem was. He was so delighted to see these young people achieve their breakthroughs.
Keith worked within the Prison Service for 30 years, retiring as a Prison Governor, and he was a big advocate for restoration and resettlement. It was probably this work that made him especially passionate in helping the young people that he was working with to stay away from a life of crime.
The new charity will aim to encourage children and young people in their resilience of getting through a difficult period in their lives. We are keen for them to remember how they overcame the challenges that they faced in order that they will recall this resilience as they grow into adulthood.
As part of this fundraising effort, we are going to give some of the money raised to the research of Brain Tumours. This is such a horrible disease and there is a long way to go in finding any type of cure and research is the only way that other people will not have to go through this.
