GIVING BACK TO THE SOURCE OF THESE TEACHINGS, THIS MEDICINE, THIS MAGIC!

It is such a blessing that Traditional Maya Healer, Miss Beatrice Torres Waight shared Yucateca Maya Medicine with her family, her community and with people all over the world!

It is also so important that the abundance of the Maya Medicine she shared with us continues to be channeled back to her own family and community!

With this goal in mind, we are updating Miss Beatrice’s amazing book!

In the new revision, not a single word that Miss Beatrice spoke will be changed.

How are we updating and improving the book?

We have a new foreward written by Miss Beatrice's daughter, Jeanette Waight. We are adding more of the voices of her sons and daughters to the book, in the memoirs section. We have a new beautiful and colorful cover designed and ready to shine into the world. We are transferring the full copyright to the Waight family. We are improving the photo quality and adding some amazing photos. We are taking the whole book through another copy edit with a professional editor to catch typos and improve the formatting and structure of the book and we are getting professional grassroots publicity support!

Please help us raise the funds to update and beautify the book to center Indigenous voices and increase promotion of the book to channel abundance to the Waight family!

HOW THE BOOK CAME TO BE...

Miss Beatrice Waight is a traditional Yucateca Maya Healer from Belize, Central America. She generously shared her Yucateca Maya healing and teachings with people in her family and village and with people from all over the world, at a time when the Yucateca Maya traditions were rapidly being lost in her village.

She was the last one really holding on to her traditional Yucateca Maya Healing ways in her village.  She asked Keath to help her have her teachings recorded in a book so that people, especially her own children and grandchildren, would have access to the Yucateca Maya traditions after she was gone.

In Miss Beatrice's words, "It is my hope that these teachings will be preserved for many generations to come."

Miss Beatrice passed away just after having the entire book that she dictated, read to her in Belize and giving her approval to publish the book . We were all so heart broken by her leaving us and we miss her every day!

The teachings she brought into the world live on in many hearts and in the pages of her book.

All the profits from the book over the years
have gone to fund education for Miss Beatrice’s children and grandchildren.

At the time of the first publishing of this book,  Miss Beatrice's children were much younger than they are now so Keath (previously Katherine Silva) carried the copyright and management of the book and wrote the forward and afterward.  Miss Beatrice's children are now in a position to own the copyright and contribute their own voices to the book, thus the revision and copyright transfer! Keath was also a busy midwife and mom of a baby at the time of the first publication with no book writing, publishing or promotion experience and just pulled it as best as he could. The structure of the book needs some improvements,  which thank goodness.. are happening now!

Keath Silva has teamed up with Zena Waight, Jeanette Waight, Adrianna Locke and Theresa Baxter to make this dream a reality.

Please help us raise the funds to update and improve the quality of the book and increase promotion of the book to channel abundance to the Waight family!

Our Hibiscus Hummingbird Book Revision Team:

Jeanette Waight is Miss Beatrice’s 8th child and like her, Jeanette is a lover of life, all that is green and natural and a great believer that the simple things in life are the most meaningful.  She continues living in the beautiful village in Belize and is raising two wonderful boys. She currently works in Marketing and sales and owes her career success to Ms. Beatrice. She is trying her best to pass onto her children, the traditions, legacy and lifestyle imparted to her by Ms. Beatrice.  She is very grateful and honored to have Ms. Beatrice as her mother.

Zena Waight is the youngest daughter of Miss Beatrice and the proud mother of two children. She was the recipient of The Maya Youth Educational Fund in 2011 and now holds a dual degree in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting from Galen University in Belize and the University of Indianapolis. Zena has developed a passion for gardening and promoting the well-being of the environment. She has engaged in various community based project groups aimed at supporting these activities, through clean up campaign and creating awareness. In the spirit of reconnecting with her roots, she is now working with wonderful persons- Keath Silva and Ann Drucker to preserve the wisdom her mother left in her teaching and her legacy of Traditional Maya Healing.

Adrianna Locke is an acupuncturist in Portland, Oregon who is learning the Maya healing traditions of her Maya ancestors on her father’s side of the family. Her father is from the exact area of Belize where Miss Beatrice lived and her family still lives!  Adrianna is passionate about preserving and honoring the wisdom of this ancient tradition and supporting the people it comes from, while making it available for individual and collective healing.

Theresa Baxter is an illustrator and graphic designer with a background in art therapy and psychology.
She is passionate about creative entrepreneurship and art and design as tools for radical paradigm shift. She tells stories through illustration, art direction and design. She is Keath’s daughter and grew up receiving healing from Miss Beatrice. Theresa will be giving technical assistance for reformatting the book with the updates and helping us to republish it.

Keath Silva (Formerly Katherine Silva) is an herbalist and parent of two amazing people. Keath learned from Miss Beatrice for many years and accepted the request from Miss Beatrice to help her write a book. Keath recorded Miss Beatrice’s voice telling us everything she wanted to say in her book for 9 days in Miss Beatrice’s home in Belize. Keath then spent a year transcribing the words, and returned to Belize to read them back to Miss Beatrice over several days in her home in Belize. Keath got Miss Beatrice's stamp of approval to publish. Keath published the book and has sent all the profits to the Waight family each year to fund the education of Waight family members. Keath is excited to honor, update and give back to the family, this amazing legacy!

On behalf of all of us we thank you for any support you can give. Any amount of donation is welcome and especially words of encouragement are needed at this time as we birth the new book baby into the world!

From Jeanette Waight: Thank you Keathie Silva and all who worked relentless and infinite hours alongside my mom helping to make her dream a reality.  With your help, she continues her legacy through her book teachings, knowing that the proceeds generated from her book sale would benefit her family and the grandkids in funding their education.  On behalf of all my family, we are forever grateful to you and all those who in one way or the other, support and continue to make my mother’s dream become a reality. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to her legacy! Thank you Mom!
