Giving thanks to beloved teacher, Tamara Whitney (Mirr)!

Tamara Whitney will stand out in history as a one-in-a-million educator and person. During her illustrious career spanning two decades, she brought the middle school curriculum alive with creativity, rigor, and innovation. In Mission Television (MTV), students became storytellers, journalists, videographers, and editors and earned over fifty local, state, and national awards! Ms. Whitney showed students respect and kindness, built trust, and encouraged them to overcome life’s challenges. When she was diagnosed with cancer in 2019, she demonstrated her bravery as she taught through treatments. After she stopped teaching for health reasons, she applied her positive energy to volunteering as a college and career mentor, helping several students defy the odds and get accepted to undergraduate and graduate programs at schools such as UCLA, Stanford, USD, Cal State Long Beach, and the University of British Columbia, and guiding them through mock interviews, resume writing, and preparations for internships and jobs. She’s also dedicated her time to supporting her son Jacob, who will head to UC Berkeley this fall, and her daughter Kassidy, who will obtain her PhD in 2026 from Texas A&M.

Her joyful, giving, and selfless nature has touched so many people throughout her life. She has tackled obstacles with laughter, even while battling her cancer. Now is our chance to help her during the most difficult challenge in her life. Join us in gathering funds to support costs in the Whitney/Parviz household as they navigate the difficult process of Tamara’s Hospice care journey. Any donation you can contribute to the family is appreciated. Thank you, Tamara Whitney, for lighting up our lives!

Sincerely,

Kirsten Josephson and friends/family
(Note: The Whitney/Parvis family will receive funds via Kirsten Josephson who will transfer donations from GoFundMe to the family. The family does not receive funds donated to Caring Bridge.)
