In Memory of James Solano

James Solano was a beloved member of CitySquash, a Bronx-based youth development program. He was known for his commanding presence, loving spirit, and big smile. His teammates remember James for his unwavering loyalty and warmth. He was always willing to walk someone home after practice, to lend a helping hand in the office, and to cheer on a nervous teammate at a squash tournament. Everyone agrees that James gave the biggest hugs.

On December 23, 2020, James was shot and killed in the Bronx. He was just 16. The younger brother to CitySquash alum Andreina Benedith, James had an unfailing love and admiration for his big sister, and was inspired to follow in her footsteps in becoming a first-generation college graduate one day.


We are setting up GoFundMe to assist James’ family with funerary arrangements and to help support them in this tragic time.

In addition to Andreina, James is survived by his mother, Victorina, his father, Toribio, and his older brother, Andrew.
