Janet's Support Fund
Donation protected
Our beloved friend, Janet Upadhye was diagnosed with Gynecological Carcinosarcoma (GCS) on November 5th when doctors discovered a tumor in her pelvis. This extremely rare cancer (fewer than 1,000 people are diagnosed each year) is aggressive and many patients are only diagnosed once it has metastasized throughout their body. Fortunately, this was not the case for Janet. However, during the weeks waiting to get admitted and treated at Memorial Sloan Kettering in NY (a center of excellence in GCS), Janet experienced how quickly this cancer can spread. She developed painful ascites (malignant fluid buildup in her abdomen) and quick progression of the disease. In the last two weeks of November 2021, she had liters of fluid drained three separate times, was admitted to the hospital 4 times, staying four nights on the last visit, and suffered the most pain she's experienced in her life.
She started chemotherapy treatment on Dec. 3, 2021 and medical bills are starting to add up. Janet has the best medical team possible with unique expertise in treating GCS. Acting quickly is key, and our goal is to remove any financial barriers to getting the best care possible. For example, Janet was denied coverage for a PET scan that her doctors fought for her to have while her cancer continued to spread. We created this fund for anyone who knows and loves Janet and wants to support her in a way that is useful. We want to eliminate all of the costs associated with this horrible disease...and hopefully have some funds to pay for a kick-ass vacation when she gets through this.
Janet is facing this disease with wicked courage, grace and determination. On one of her most painful days, when relief came, she exclaimed, "this is the best day ever!"
She's our hero. Thank you for your donation and love.
