Glass to Sand at Lake Chelan

Donation protected
Megan Clausen and Devyn Smith are Seniors at Manson High School. Their goal is to bring glass recycling to the Lake Chelan Valley by leasing or buying a glass crushing machine that's total cost is $6000.

After discovering that recycling at the community recycling center had come to a halt, Megan Clausen and Devyn Smith decided to do some research and create a solution to this problem.

Crushing glass bottles from local businesses and turning it into a sand bi-product prevents glass bottles from ending up in our landfills. It also produces an inexpensive product that has multiple uses. The fine sand product can be sold to the community and can be used in gardens, art, filling sand bags, patching roads and creating sidewalks.

Turns the bottles into a usable bi-product

85lbs of sand is equal to 160 beer bottles or 60 wine bottles.
Simple, quiet and easy to operate (80db)
Crushing time of 3 to 5 seconds per bottle
