Glen the cat’s luxating patella leg surgery
Donation protected
Hello all you kindhearted people who are taking a minute to read Glen’s story! My name is Jan Schowengerdt, aka Gertie, and I foster cats in Madison, WI. Right now I have this wonderful pair, Glen and Gertie (she was already named, I swear :-P).
Glen has luxating patellas — essentially kneecaps that aren’t in place, in both legs, which prevents him from being comfortable or moving about normally. He had a rough start in life, found in a ditch with four siblings. He and 3 others survived, and after some rough patches including FIP treatment for his sister, they were finally available for adoption when this issue with Glen’s legs came up. It is likely genetic, possibly initiated by him jumping from too high up.
We are already making plans for his surgery, but hoping to offset some of the cost, as the rescue he is with (Misfit Felines in Stoughton, WI) helps a lot of cats with medical issues and there are many cats in need. They will be doing some fundraising as well, but I’m setting up this GoFundMe to see if we can help. I know we won’t get anywhere near the cost of the surgery but every bit helps.
Because he has an issue with both legs, amputation is not an option, so we want to help him live his best life with the legs he has. The orthopedic surgeon has recommended we repair the leg with the most severe issue and leave the Grade 2 leg alone, and see how he manages.
If you cannot contribute at this time, no worries, he will definitely get the surgery, but any funds raised will help him and other cats like him.
With gratitude,
Gertie, Gertie, and Glen
