Glenda’s Survive & Thrive Fund

Let me tell you about my sweet friend, Glenda Gonzalez. Tiny but mighty, she is funny and kind, thoughtful and generous, and she is always trying to feed the people she cares about! Her tiny adorable exterior embodies a great big heart, and so much courage and perseverance! Don’t let Ms Shorty fool you, she is a very strong woman and she has had more than a few challenges to overcome in her life.

Glenda has a loving supportive husband, Angel, who lives up to his name, and she is the proud mother of 3 wonderful young adult sons. Her youngest, Anthony, just graduated from a special needs high school. He has autism and will always need care.

This week Glenda was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer with lymph node involvement. She has had surgery and is now home from the hospital tasked with figuring out how to survive: colon cancer and financially.

Glenda and her husband both work, live paycheck to paycheck, and have no health insurance. She will need money to pay for her chemotherapy, cat scans, doctor appointments, healthy food, and some help with bills. The hospital has helped her apply for disability but we have no idea how long that will take or how much it will be.

My goal is to help Glenda and her family financially, so she can focus on her health and healing, not on how she is going to keep her phone tuned on.

This is my first time doing a go fund me for a friend, it’s hard to know what to share and it’s also hard to quantify a financial goal.
When I spoke with Glenda last night about doing this fundraiser for her, she replied she’d be so grateful and how helpful $500 would be. Her first chemo visit will be $196. She’s been out of work for 2 weeks and we do not know when she’ll be able to return. She is healing from major surgery and has a gut full of staples.

I decided to raise the bar a bit from her modest $500 request. While $10,000 feels like an exorbitant amount to ask for, in reality I know it may not be enough. But it would have a profound impact on Glenda’s current situation and her mental and emotional state of mind. The money will be used for her medical care and treatment, and food and bills while she is out of work. If there is money leftover it will be placed in a savings for her son Anthony, for his care, as it is needed.

We are so grateful for your consideration.
Thank you!

Peace and love to all,
Maria
