Our beloved Glenn Dixon sadly passed away on August 29th, 2022. Glenn was a wonderful Husband, Dad, Brother, Cousin, Friend, And Unionist. He truly touched and impacted the lives around him.
Glenn had spent over 20 years as an AFGE Union Representative employed at the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Glenn was the President at Terminal Island, and after transferring to FCC Victorville, he held numerous roles within Local 3969, always helping staff in any way he could. Glenn served primarily as a Shop Steward for the Correctional Officers and was vital to the Union in negotiating local policies and procedures; he also helped countless officers navigate union and agency procedures. As a Legislative Coordinator, Glenn developed Congressional contacts. He successfully got Congressional support that helped the union enact laws for staff safety and brought other matters of importance to the attention of our Congressional Representatives. Glenn spent hundreds of hours and money preparing and presenting issues to Congress. As he got close to retirement, Glenn was appointed as a Retiree Coordinator for AFGE District 12, assisted countless local unions and federal retirees in the continuing benefits of Union membership, and was recognized with an award for "AFGE Retiree of the Year for 2022". Glenn left a lasting impression on everyone he met; wherever he went across the country, everyone knew Glenn Dixon, Correctional Officer and AFGE unionist! Glenn was never too busy to help, never too busy to listen, a mentor to all, and someone we will always look up to. Glenn always had a joke to tell, a funny story to share and always made work enjoyable knowing he was on shift. Glenn leaves a legacy of love and compassion for his brother and sisters and will be significantly missed beyond measure.
Glenn's Memorial/Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 24th, 2022 11:00 am at FCC Victorville in the CAB building. We would love to give Glenn the memorial he deserves, honor his memory, pay our respects and say our final goodbyes.
