Glenn Mayer: medical & family expenses
At the beginning of October, my sweet dad had an MRI for ongoing back pain that we thought was from a muscle strain. The scan showed metastatic cancer which we later discovered through biopsy was a rare form of sarcoma called extraskeletal myxoid chondrosarcoma. After a trip to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, the doctors have determined that there are no available clinical trials at this time. Therefore, all of his treatment going forward will be palliative. He will begin this soon in Birmingham.
Since his diagnosis, we have been blessed and overwhelmed with an outpouring of love, support, and prayers from our community. We have created this page for anyone who feels called to donate to us financially. If you are unable, we would love for you to share my dad’s story through this link as well as continue to keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Your financial support will contribute to my dad’s medical bills as well as support my family. Due to the progressive nature of my dad’s disease and his increasing pain, we are unsure how long he will be able to continue working.
We want to thank everyone who has already given in any way—your love, prayers and support have been a beautiful picture of the community and church coming together in time of need. To anyone else who feels called to give, thank you, thank you, thank you. All of your contributions are valued, appreciated, and will be a huge stress relief in a very difficult time for my dad and my family.
