Global Health Ministry Peru Mission

One of the most life-changing years for me was the year after graduating college. I spent that year volunteering in the small and magical town of Chulucanas, Peru. While most days were spent teaching English in various schools and community centers (as well as teaching Thriller choreography for talent shows), I also had the incredible opportunity to serve as an interpreter for doctors and nurses who made three mission trips throughout the year. These amazing volunteers provided free clinics and performed free surgeries to those in need, many of whom had never seen a doctor or experienced any medical care in their lifetime. It was incredibly moving to see these people's lives changing right before my eyes. I can distinctly remember a man who had cataracts removed by an eye surgeon and said he could see for the first time in 30 years - I was able to share his story with the doctor as he wept with joy. On the other hand, there were challenging moments when I had to share some tough news to patients and their families when the doctors had detected life-threatening illnesses caught too late. Every story has stayed with me these last 12 years because I will never forget the appreciation in their eyes and hearts for basic education, a smile, to know they are loved- it was everything. I finally have the opportunity to go back to the community that touched and changed me as a human to help translate for the next mission this coming June. You can learn more about the organization and mission trips here: https://www.globalhealthvolunteers.net/find-a-mission/chulucanas/
I am starting a fundraiser for this trip to cover the cost of medical supplies and ongoing care for patients and their families (testing, staff, supplies, food), volunteer costs for the 2-week mission trip and some basic essentials given to patients. If you can spare even $5, I promise it will make a huge difference, and I would deeply appreciate anything! Thank you for reading my novel, and please let me know if you would like updates or more details or have any questions. THANK YOU!

PS, for a real laugh, feel free to peruse the blog I kept that year - it's incredibly embarrassing and pretty funny. https://clarissanegrete.blogspot.com/
