Global Medical Brigade fundraising trip to Panama !

Hi! My name is Alexis Joyce, and I am a rising junior majoring in health science at the University of New Hampshire. I am volunteering with Global Medical Brigades in Panama this January with the University of New Hampshire chapter. I could not be more excited for this opportunity and to make a difference with my peers.

Our chapter's goal during our time in Panama is to help sustainable medical clinics provided to residents in rural communities with limited access to healthcare. Indigenous and rural populations in this country often have difficulty gaining access to healthcare services due to scarce health infrastructure (including lack of health professionals, medicines, and technology), economic and geographical barriers, and weak intercultural understanding.

For the time I am in Panama with my fellow peers, we will have provided medical care along with educational programs to hundreds of patients who have traveled great lengths to be seen by us. We will be offering various medical consultations, dental stations, triage intake, educational workshops, a pharmacy station, and so much more. Global Brigades is steadfast in its commitment to cultivating an inclusive and empowering environment that celebrates diversity in its entirety, offering equal opportunities to all whether that is in its volunteers or its patients.
