WashU Communities Fight for Social Justice
Donation protected
The WashU community stands in solidarity with the current protesters, the Black Lives Matter movement, and victims of injustice as a result of police violence and discrimination. However, we acknowledge that standing in solidarity is not enough. We acknowledge that being silent is being complicit, and right now and always, to be complicit is to ignore and accept the injustices we see against Black individuals in America everyday. We re-commit ourselves to not only educating ourselves, but to educating our communities about the reality of the treatment of minorities in America and how they can support change. We commit to utilizing our privilege and power to support Black organizers as they lead protests, request aid, and obtain justice for the many victims of police brutality.
The huge increase in donations to Black organizations and advocacy organizations in the past few days has been incredibly inspiring. In order to help do our part in encouraging everyone to continue to show financial support, we are organizing a fundraiser for four organizations. Two are St. Louis-based organizations and two are national organizations.
- Close the Workhouse
- Missouri Black Protesters Legal Fund
- NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund
- The Bail Project
We ask that you donate here if you have the means to do so as we have partnered with corporate matching programs to double every donation made to the page. Please share this fundraiser with your family and friends! Together, we can support these organizations and their critical advocacy efforts whose importance cannot be overstated in moments like these.
