In 2014, I looked after a young doctor who was assaulted by her boss. As her GP, I realised the therapeutic relationship was challenging: after all, she was a doctor, he was a doctor and I am a doctor, so it was understandable there were challenges in the therapeutic relationship.
That one consultation led to 10 years of work which has been been deeply challenging.
Part of that work has involved leading an international book on this issue. The book has 75 authors from 23 countries, and is a labour of love from all of us. Cambridge University Press is publishing, and we hope to have the book released at the end of the year. For me, it has been so important to address this issue, because it is wrong. As General Morrison said in the military "the standard you walk past is the one you accept"
However, we would like to get this book published Open Access, so anyone around the world can use it. It seems so wrong to charge doctors and students from developing countries to access the book when they have written for us. Unfortunately, it will cost me $20 000 to do it, and I just can't manage this on my own. I am also funding some editorial costs, like indexing and other expert support
I have spent countless hours applying for funding from companies, grant bodies, individuals all to no avail. Perhaps it is too confronting? So here I am.
If you would like to know more about the book, you can find it here You can also contact me to discuss it.
Thank you: I need help to get this out in the world.
