COYOTE RI:
COYOTE (Call Off Your Old Tired Ethics) RI is a grassroots organization focusing on harm reduction, legal reform, and public education, led by sex workers, former sex workers, survivors of state violence and/or trafficking, and community allies. 2019 marks our 10-year anniversary of organizing under harsh criminalization and policing of sex workers, as Rhode Island re-criminalized indoor sex work in 2009 after almost 30 years of decriminalization. We believe that the current climate of criminal justice is not a solution to the gender and labor inequity that is deeply entrenched in the society at large. It only creates endless barriers for sex workers to access the services and resources that THEY SAY THEY NEED and further puts the vulnerable population (QTPOC, undocumented, street-based) at immediate risk.
STATEMENT ON CORONAVIRUS:
Sex workers are experiencing a large decrease in clients and work. Because of the virus, there have been large dips in the stock market, impacting workers worldwide. At this time, many are struggling to find work and make ends meet. Many are unable to take time off to address health concerns or are unable to work because of COVID-19 and/or its panic. We must remember that those who are most marginalized are the most at risk. If you are in need of assistance, please email (bella@coyoteri (dot) org) Also, please check out COYOTE RI's regularly updated COVID-19 Sex Worker Harm Reduction Resources at https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CkGjfBg3Wm6hL5V0XZJ8A84FSVEa0P5CApI3R79FI94/edit#.
SEX WORKER EMERGENCY RELIEF GRANT FUND:
Funds we raise will be used to support local sex workers affected by COVID-19. COYOTE needs your help today to support Rhode Island Sex Workers when no one else will.
Many of us received relief payments from The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES) ACT, which was written specifically to exclude sex workers from accessing relief. We at COYOTE RI are offering direct aid to Rhode Island Sex Workers through our Sex Worker Emergency Relief Grant Fund. As of March 31st, 2020, COYOTE RI has processed 175 applications and we provided $37,500 to Rhode Island Sex Workers in EM COVID grants.
We want to send out more, but COYOTE is a small organization, and we’re nearly out of funds. We need YOUR support to continue helping Rhode Island Sex Workers when no one else will. Without your donation, we won’t be able to continue helping Sex Workers in Rhode Island to make it through what is already a difficult and stressful time for us all.
For RI sex workers experiencing hardship during COVID-19, please email bella@coyoteri (dot) org to apply or call 401 525 8757 and we will try our absolute best to financially assist you during these trying times.
