We are asking for your help as family and friends of a woman who has fought Cancer for 11-years. We understand cancer is a battle many face, but Micki – now a five-time cancer survivor – must face a rough road again. As Micki, her husband Eddie and their two sons prepare for their fifth recovery fight, we are asking for something they NEVER asked for before, the help of others. Micki needs our help, and we are asking you to join us.
Cancer #1 first struck Micki in April 2011 and by the end of the month she had a double mastectomy. 5-years on Tamoxifen and 3-years on Anastrozole was greeted by Cancer #2 in October of 2017. Diagnosed with Parotid (salivary) Gland cancer - not related to the breast Cancer - was surgically removed and followed with 6 weeks of radiation.
In June 2019, during a CAT Scan of her salivary glands, a mass was found on her right upper lung. The tumor was Metastatic Breast Cancer as the cancer cells spread from the breast to the lungs. The Cancer #3 mass was surgically removed. One year later, during the start of COVID-19 pandemic, Cancer #4 was found in March of 2020. Once again cancer cells had spread to Micki’s right lung but this time doctors had to surgically remove the whole upper lobe.
Just two years later, March 2022, Cancer #5, a malignant tumor, was found on her brain. The tumor had to be surgically removed, and as of this writing pathology is still inconclusive if the brain tumor originated from the breast cancer or parotid metastatic.
Still the battle to be waged waits for Micki and her family, but a lot has changed in 11 years – something we all know a little about. The toll Cancer takes on the body can be seen by everyone; but only family and close friends we know the toll it takes on finances. 11-years ago Eddie was working steady, now 11-years later Ed is unable to work and is on permanent social security disability.
So here is where we stand - Micki hopes to start her radiation sessions shortly and must wait for additional chemo or immunotherapy treatments as recommended by her doctor.
In all the years family and friends have known Micki and Eddie NEVER once have we heard either one of them say “why me”? Over the past 11 years – including the Go Fund Me page – Micki and Eddie NEVER asked for help – but we are. We are because we hear “how can we help?” We are because living in Manchester/Glastonbury area for 35-years, Micki and Eddie remained active in the schools, youth sports and the community. We are because to see Micki’s smile and to hear her laugh always makes you feel like everything is going to be ok. We are because Micki has remained strong through all of this, and now we need to be strong for her.
Cancer is so devastating because it attacks the body, the spirit, the money, the sick, and the healthy. Know this, the Go Fund Me Page does ONE thing - help offset the growing medical and family expenses, especially expenses not covered by insurance.
For those who know Micki and Eddie this “ask” is understood – what we are really hoping for is those who don’t know Micki, Eddie or their two sons, can see them through our eyes; to see Micki as someone you know.
Thank you in advance for your support and please remember to keep Micki and her family in your prayers.
