Skydive for Ukrainian Hospital
Donation protected
Dear friends,
It's not very often that I (a) willingly sign up to throw myself out of a plane,
(b) realise that it's not just a bad dream, and that I really have signed up to throw myself out of a plane, and (c) realise that it's not a bad dream, that I really have signed up to throw myself out of a plane, and that I have chosen to do it in England. In December.
Fearful as I am of hurtling towards the Earth through ~13,500 feet of freezing wintry air, it will be a small feat compared to the one that I hope it will inspire. A bit of background: this August I visited a hospital in my home town of Odessa, Ukraine, where hundreds of wounded victims of the current confrontations in the East are being treated. The head surgeon told me that the hospital lacks appropriate equipment to treat gunshot injuries. While we're all familiar with the comparison of orthopedic surgery to carpentry, I did not imagine that I would find household drills in the surgical theatre in place of medical ones. And yet, this is the reality.
Being devastated by what I saw, I have decided to raise money for an orthopedic surgery set, the Stryker System 6. The system costs £2,130. To raise this money, I will skydive (or be pushed out of the plane, depending on the strength of my internal self-preservation system) on the 6th Dec with the London Parachute School (I am paying for the jump myself). Every penny that you donate will be used for purchasing and transporting the Stryker to the hospital along with a list of all contributors, which I will carry out in person at Christmas.
Any donation, even the smallest one, you can offer will help hundreds of people!!
Thank you very much!
Yours, Katja
