Well what can I say ? We are all completely blown away by all your kindness and overwhelming generosity after we posted Paulas’
story just over a week ago. We truly are blessed to have such wonderful friends and family supporting Paula and her family. Many thanks to each and everyone of you, you are all awesome!
Sadly, Paula remains in Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in Liverpool where specialists are desperately trying to control her pain with a cocktail of drugs. They have now discovered a further growth in the cancer which is sitting around her T12 spinal bone. This is pressing on the nerve pathway causing her excruciating pain in and around her back, hip and lower torso. She has had radiotherapy recently in an attempt to shrink the tumor in her spine and now, two weeks today she is still receiving ongoing care and pain management. As you can imagine she is feeling pretty low and unwell and desperate to get home.
Both herself, Steve, Charlie and Marcie are forever grateful for your kindness especially at a time where she has been forced into early retirement on medical grounds and Steve is trying to juggle life together with also earning a living being self employed. Times shall we say are tough in all manner of ways. Please look out for details of the up and coming charity night at The Burmah Castrol Club, Friday 20th October 2023 - 7pm onwards.
We aim to host a fantastic evening and would love to see as many of you there as possible.
This page is still open for anyone still wishing to donate, and once again thank you so much for your support
Paula Fields, for anyone who has had the privilege to meet, know and love her, will already know just what a beautiful human being she is, a totally devoted wife & mum to Steve, Charlie & Marcie and a fabulous friend to all.
January 2022:
Clear mammogram result.
April-July 2022:
Their world came crashing down, when Paula was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. This is an aggressive type of cancer which typically has a faster growth rate so time was of the essence. Her chemotherapy commenced a month later but sadly after 10 intensive weeks of treatment, this proved to be ineffective.
The cancer was found to be growing quicker than the tumor was shrinking so a more intensive and stronger chemotherapy was prescribed.
January 2023:
Finally, some good news, the second phase of intensive chemo had proven successful and a mastectomy was performed. However, further treatment was also required to remove all cancer from her lymph nodes so Paula endured more grueling radiotherapy treatment which left her completely drained but not completely defeated. Her first battle was won.
March 2023:
Paula began feeling unwell again with what, at first, she thought was a pulled muscle in her back. CT scans revealed the cancer had metastasised to her right lung and more devastatingly, the tumor was Grade 4, inoperable and incurable. Her next battle began with invasive draining (fluid was building at a fast rate) which was excruciating and debilitating leaving our beautiful friend feeling hopeless and housebound due to the severity of her symptoms. Paula, a fighter and never one to give up, was, unfortunately, not eligible for immunotherapy leaving her only viable option of treatment a further course of chemo, tablet form. As an added blow to this cruel diagnosis, Paula's pain is proving difficult to manage, leaving her breathless and unable to walk the shortest distance causing extreme pain and exhaustion. Her fighting spirit is being constantly tested to the limit, yet she keeps on fighting.
August 2023:
The third bombshell was delivered this month following more tests which indicated a possible further spread to her lower spine, leaving Paula with limited conventional options and a very different treatment plan and future prognosis.
Regrettably the NHS are unable to provide Paula with all of the treatment and care she needs, and there are many others who are also fighting this wicked disease. So to date, we have raised over £4000 for Cancer Research UK in the hope of one day finding a cure, and we will continue to support cancer charities in the future.
In terms of Paula's options and following professional advice, she has now decided to follow the alternative medicine pathway to manage her pain more effectively and hopefully provide some respite to her and her family. This plan will include privately funded practitioners in holistic and nutritional therapies together with oncology consultations, all of which are extremely expensive.
Raising funds to finance this treatment will help Paula and her family immensely, hopefully giving them all much needed quality time together. In support of this and to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness Month we are holding a fundraising evening on Friday 20th October 2023 at The Groves (old Burmah Castrol Club), Whitby, Ellesmere Port from 7pm onwards. Further information to follow.
Please, please, please support our fund raising page with a donation, no matter how small. Let us shower our beautiful Paula and her family with love and support and show them they are not alone through this next phase of her treatment.
