London to Brighton Cycle - 3rd August 2019
Donation protected
Last year we rode from London to Paris for my sister, this year I have organised a second charity cycle, a little shorter but with a greater number of cyclists for two worthy causes:
Firstly, my sister Sophia, who after 3 years of misdiagnosis I finally persuaded her to have a private consultation where they found she had a tumour in her large intestine. Fortunately they performed a major lifesaving operation removing the primary tumour, unfortunately however the cancer had spread. We continue to fight and use money raised for alternative treatment to help battle this awful disease and also setting up her charity to support young people with cancer.
Secondly, Eliza aged 20, born with a rare genetic heart condition called Danon's Disease, that went undiagnosed until she was 12 and up until the age of 18 Eliza was able to live a relatively normal life, completing her A-levels and embarking on a degree at the University of Falmouth. Unfortunately, as Eliza got older her health deteriorated considerably, she suffered her heart failure back in October 2018, the cardiologists at Royal Papworth decided that Eliza’s best chance of survival was to have a heart transplant and so she was placed on the Heart Transplant List. In the last week of January 2019, once Eliza had recovered from the pneumonia, she was admitted to Royal Papworth and placed on the Emergency Heart Transplant List. Owing to Eliza’s rarer blood type (O-negative) and height, the two main factors used to match the donor heart with the receiver, it is likely that she will have to wait longer than most for a transplant.
We are now raising funds along with Eliza for Royal Papworth Hospital, the home of transplant research and ground-breaking transplant procedures, and to increase awareness of the NHS Organ Donation Register.
Thank you for reading, any donation, no matter how small is welcome!
