Support Harper's Cafe and Stand Against Homophobia
Donation protected
As you may have heard, our beloved Harper's Cafe in West Orange, New Jersey was vandalized two nights in a row - on July 12th and July 13th. This is on the heels of the owner, Garan, publicly expressing solidarity and support for the LGBTQIA+ community after a patron wrote a homophobic review. As Garan responded on social media, "When I hang or display a Pride flag in my spot, that shows you I am an ally to all." This speaks to the inclusive, welcoming community that Harper’s Cafe fosters in West Orange and beyond.
Since opening in 2019, Garan and his team have cultivated community in and out of the cafe. Making and donating more than 5,000 lunches for local students and seniors during the pandemic, as well as sponsoring charity events, the team at Harper’s Cafe has demonstrated care, generosity, and a consistent spirit of mutual aid and support.
Please contribute to help this Black-owned family business and stand against homophobia! Your donations will be used for repairs to the cafe and to support the team at Harper’s as they recuperate losses from the days they have closed. And your support will send a message, particularly to our LGBTQIA+ community, that West Orange won’t tolerate homophobia, bigotry and violence. We are a community committed to diversity, inclusion, peace, equity, and justice!
