Hi, my name is Sinéad Ellen Griffin.
I was born and raised in Waterford City. I’ve been through both Primary, Secondary and Third level education in the city and I currently work in our city centre.
Having left Waterford in my early 20s, I spent almost 10 years living and working in Dublin. Due to the housing crisis, combined with a cost of living crisis, I returned to Waterford in 2019 and moved back into my family home. It was my intent to find rental accommodation in Waterford on my return and create for myself an independent life.
Unfortunately, in the 5 years since my return I have been unable to find any affordable or suitable accommodation. I am just one example of ‘Generation Locked Out’ living at home in my childhood bedroom. Having become increasingly frustrated with the current climate in Ireland, combining housing issues, mental health facilities and services I have entered into the activist realm.
In the last 18months I have taken on a vocal role in advocating for change. I have worked closely with Dr Rory Hearne of Maynooth University, in order to raise awareness on the damage being done to those who have been forgotten by the State. I have worked with national and international journalists to draw attention to our failing and outdated policies being imparted by our current Government.
From a young age I have been involved with both local and National politics. Having been an active member of Waterford’s youth City council for several years, I also represented Waterford on a National forum during my time as a member of Dáil Ná N’óg. I strongly believe that without adequate representation the change our City and Country requires will not become our living reality.
I am delighted to have been chosen to run for Local elections on behalf of the Social Democrats Party, to voice the concerns of those who have been ignored and to advocate for visible change. A change that I believe the Social Democrat Party can and WILL deliver.
I am asking for your confidence and your vote to help change the face of Waterford to a city that will provide for all. A City that can act as a leader, for a future Ireland, built on innovation and equality.
If you could, any donation big or small will help fund my campaign.
Together, we can make a difference.
Go raibh míle maith agaibh go léir.
