Go Fund Me for Shawna Mackeben
As some of you may know, Shawna was involved in a devastating car accident early Friday morning (9/8). She was riding in the backseat, while her friends, Kendall and Keeley, were in the front. A vehicle impacted the front of their vehicle, totaling the car. The airbags deployed and Kendall and Keeley were fortunate to receive only minimal injuries. Unfortunately, Shawna was not as lucky. She hit her head and suffered multiple brain contusions and has been in critical condition since the accident.
She was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago where she has remained in the ICU. By the grace of God, she has regained consciousness and has recently started opening her eyes and talking. As with most traumatic brain injuries, she is very confused and having difficulty understanding where she is and what has happened. The focus shifted to her lungs, a common complication associated with long stays in intensive care with minimal movement. Shawna’s condition is slowly improving, but the road to recovery will be long and difficult for her. She will need extensive rehab and physical therapy.
Everyone who knows Shawna knows that she is such a loving, giving person. She has the most amazing sense of humor and we are so lucky we have seen sparks of it even in her condition. Shawna is not one to ask for anything from anyone and is incredibly hard working. At this point, it could be quite some time before she is able to return to work. Our goal in starting this campaign is to ease the financial burden she is sure to endure in the long road ahead. At this time, she can use all the love, prayers and financial assistance that you are able to provide. We appreciate any small gesture you are able to provide.
