Go Fund Me to Bless Beverly McGreevy

As many of you know, my mom, Beverly McGreevy, faced a life or death emergency situation when she arrived earlier this week to visit her family in Auckland, New Zealand.

The day she flew out, she woke up feeling tired and cold, we thought maybe she had a touch of the flu or possibly a cold. She said she would be fine and rest on the plane, as it was a long flight to NZ (30+hrs with layovers). She texted along the way that she had rested some, her knee was a bit swollen, (she had knee surgery in Sept) but she had the last bit of her flight to go. When her brother picked her up in Auckland, her knee had formed blisters and she felt and looked sick. He took her home and she rested, and when she woke up, her blisters had all burst, she felt cold and clammy and was having trouble breathing. Thank God her brother and sister-in-law called an ambulance and rushed her to the hospital. This was around 4pm this past Monday and we received a message that mom had been rushed to the ER in NZ with either sepsis or a blood clot. By 6pm our family was on the phone with a Dr in Auckland telling us that mom needed emergency surgery in order to save her life, because the infection was spreading so rapidly. If they would have waited even a few more hours, she wouldn’t have made it, as her organs were beginning to show signs of strain. The hours between that call and the next we’re the most excruciating we have ever felt. At that point I decided to post our situation on social media to reach as many praying people I could and began to post updates on mom’s progress. So far mom has had 3 surgeries in under a week. Even though she is still in ICU, each small update we received was more encouraging than the one before. She was placed on a ventilator, dialysis and heavily sedated, so that she could begin the healing process.

The diagnosis turned out to be an infection of streptococcus which can be contracted through the skin by a minor cut of all things, they are not sure how she contracted it, but  it was fast-moving and hadn’t been like a brooding infection or anything. As of tonight, they have removed the ventilator and she’s breathing in her own, still can’t speak yet and is still on dialysis in the ICU. We are almost positive she will be in NZ recovering for at least 2 months, maybe more.

If you have been following along with the updates we’ve posted on Facebook, you know we continue to mention extreme measures were taken to save mom’s life. The reason we ask for privacy around this particular part of the treatment is we are all still processing as a family and especially my mom how different each of our lives will be going forward in her recovery process. Mom’s body has experienced major trauma and she won’t be the same as she was before, however if you know her, you know she’s one of the toughest ladies out there and she’s going to get through this with all of the prayers, love and support we can give. So, I hope you understand we want to preserve and protect her dignity during this process and when she feels ready, she can share her story.

My mom is the most self-less person I know, she has been helping people since I can remember, always doing and giving to everyone and always with a smile. I really want this page to be about giving back to her, after all she has given to others her entire life, she is truly a gem and I want us to show her what a blessing she has been to so many.

Y’all, we really don’t have a monetary goal in mind to meet, although there will be some unforeseen expenses along the way for sure. We would just like to “Bless Beverly”, in the way she has blessed others her entire life. Funds would be allocated for medical expenses, rehab, equipment needed during/after rehab, retrofitting her home for ease of mobility and the list goes on.

Give if you feel led to do so and please leave a message of encouragement for my mom, we would love to read those to her and I know she would love  to hear from you.❤️
