Threads Radio Fundraiser

Threads’ goal is to amplify today’s global cultures, providing a platform for creative exploration and positive self-expression. In ten months we have built an international platform that promotes individuals, communities and different localities through broadcast, editorial, live performances and events.
Our current home in Tottenham Hale is due to be redeveloped and we will have to move. Originally we were to move in January 2020, but following an unexpected announcement by our home The Cause, we’ve been afforded precious time to find the right space to realise our ambitions. We are asking for your help to raise £7,500.
This money will be spent on:
- repairing, upgrading and investing into our broadcasting, recording and video equipment and digital infrastructure. Purchasing new video equipment to be able to draw more attention to certain content. Repairing and maintaining that which is in use 12-16 hours a day 24/7, while safeguarding against any downtime from malfunctions, breakages and the pressure placed on infrastructure by expansion. Investing into our website and social media.
- financially preparing to move home and build new studios. The costs involved in relocating and fitting out our new space will be high. Studio design, manual labour and materials. To fulfil Threads’ ambitions and aspirations, we want to build a multi-room, multi-functional space for broadcasting live shows, recording pre-record shows and podcasts, filming and live-streaming, providing space for DJ and production lessons, and hosting an office and creative meeting spaces.
Which will put us in a position to:
- develop education programmes and facilities: Some of Threads’ strongest aspirations revolve around opportunity and access - helping people to develop their skills within radio, DJing, audio production, podcasting and film making. This would be further enabled by investment into new space and equipment. As the arts is under pressure in mainstream education, with less opportunity for people to develop practical skills in this industry, we want to build a creative hub that provides such a platform.
- stream partnerships / pop-ups / invest further in our international community. To complement our regular programming, we pride ourselves on providing a broadcast platform to micro-communities around the world via our pop-up events. Traveling to all corners of the world, celebrating subcultures and exploring the threads that bring us all together. Sustaining and executing this to the highest possible standard requires infrastructure that we do not yet have.
ABOUT THREADS RADIO
Threads is a dynamic internet radio community with two streams:
- Threads (stream 1: live shows from our Tottenham studio)
- Threads* (stream 2: pre-recorded, live and pop-up content from neighbourhoods across the world)
Since our launch in January 2019 we have:
- broadcast over three hundred unique shows every month
- grown a strong Threads international community with shows in at least 25 countries
- hosted events and pop-ups in 22 different localities / 10 countries / 3 continents
- garnered thousands of followers on our social media and audio channels.
We've interviewed musical pioneers like Juan Atkins, Chez Damier, Flying Lotus, Lee Scratch Perry, Nightmares on Wax, Roots Manuva, Cinthie, 2 Bad Mice and A Guy Called Gerald; hosted grime cyphers with the likes of Trim, Flirta D, Jendor and Killa P; broadcast shows from incredible community projects and charities such as Inspire, Bubble Club, the Hospice Biographers and Headway East London; and seen acts like Dusk & Blackdown, CJ Bolland, Jerome Hill, Nihiloxica, Lia Mice, Drew McDowall, Fauzia and Sully play sets on Threads’ airwaves.
While we are a new addition to Tottenham amidst mass redevelopments and renovation projects, we aim to create a positive feedback loop within our immediate community. We aren’t old Tottenham, we aren’t new Tottenham: we’re both.
We’re involved with the Haringey Migrant Support Centre which supports people with jobs, housing, healthcare and citizenship applications. We've partnered with local communities and venue ‘Grow Tottenham’ to help raise over £4000 for the Seven Sisters Latin Village legal fight against forced evictions and redevelopment. We work to give a platform to LGBTQ+ communities, and recently raised over £1200 as part of a Trans-Awareness event at Dalston Superstore.
We need your support to build on these achievements and ensure the resilience of Threads! Please donate anything you can spare - sharing and liking our crowdfunder posts is also a huge help. Thank you.
