Help ex Lancer’s recovery after Sepsis and Strep A

Donation protected
Update!!Danny has been home a fortnight, all the delusions have gone and he is healing well! He has to have another operation (this is operation number 5 in 5 weeks!) on Friday 14th July for a new skin graft! We are quite apprehensive but keeping as positive as possible! Please look out for the signs of sepsis! If we would have left it any longer I dread to think what may have happened then.Took 36 hours from operation to the hell that happened next.(Thank you so much for the donations. This means we can pay for our next 2 months rent and our council tax, also his holidays run out the day after his op so will then be on SSP.)Our story:I’m Sylvia and I’m trying to raise money for my husband Danny. Before I tell you what happened I have to tell the reason why the whole events of the last 14 days of hell happened… Taking you back to 21st June 2019 when Danny was knocked off his motorbike resulting in broken left arm in 3 places (between his armour plates on his 1 piece 2 week old leathers) broken nerve, 2mm off the upper bone and nerve sown back together, which regrew about 97%, compartment syndrome in his lower left arm resulting in a skin graft, a damaged spleen, cuts and bruises. 2023 - 6th June (day after my birthday!) Danny went into theatre to remove half of his skin graft on his lower inside of his left arm. This was done successfully under local anaesthetic and he was sent home the same day.Lunch time on the 7th June he felt ill, he felt like his bandage was too tight and he was in a lot of pain. At 6pm we were in NEMS and 6:50pm at QMC accident and emergency. Early morning on the 8th June they took Danny into surgery to open his arm and what was going on in there. Danny had sepsis and Strep A. Both which are nasty infections and he was placed in an induced coma on immune suppressants so the 2 lots of super strength antibiotics could get the infections as his own antibodies would have attacked all his organs! They told me it was touch and go and he was the “poorliest person in intensive care!”He was in the coma for 6 days in a controlled atmosphere room (so the infection couldn’t spread round the hospital) and now he is left with septic shock which is making him delirious and delusional so he is still in intensive care with 24 hour watch and care.He has had 4 operations so far which has resulted in a great deal of lost skin, muscle tissue, strength and he’s missing most of the inside of his forearm. He’s due 2 more operations, one to place fake skin on his arm and the other is for another skin graft. After all this trauma and life-threatening infections, my husband Danny, will not be able to work until he has stabilised and recovered sufficiently to drive. As well as our natural concerns over Danny’s health, as a family, we have been exposed to the reality that we will not be able to afford our household bills once the remaining cash from Danny’s last wage has gone. We also must face the cost of adaptions needed to help Danny return to being self-sufficiently functional in normal daily activities.   Danny was a driver for the Ministry of Defence when he had his first accident and, immediately prior to this accident, had been away from home for working in Oman and Germany. On the day he got back to the UK, he was on his way to see me when his motorbike’s rear wheel is believed to have been knocked by another vehicle causing the crash. I hadn’t seen him for nearly 7 months! For now, we hope he has won over the Sepsis and strep A infections. The future of his arm remains uncertain. The family are now feeling stress from the inevitable financial challenges . This request is for support to get us through this horribly traumatic and difficult time, to help us support Danny in his recovery and prevent long term financial consequences. I would love it if he was out of hospital for the 12th July as this is our 26th Wedding Anniversary!   Your kind support will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading, Sylvia
